Every week, Mitten Brides is going to feature a city in the metro-Detroit area that could be the perfect city for you to host your wedding! Howell is our first feature city! Howell is in Livingston County (about 30-45 minutes from most tri-county cities) so it's a perfect distance for bride & grooms that want something close by and a more rural or different feel. where to tie the knot: All Saints Historical ChapelThis adorable little historic chapel is located right in downtown Howell, across the street from the Howell Opera House, making them both a perfect combination for your big day. where to celebrate: Howell Opera HouseI can't say enough about the Howell Opera House. The venue boasts plenty of natural light and has a very artsy feel to it. Lined with brick walls and adorable lighting, it makes the perfect backdrop. Guests are greeted in the main entrance which can be used to serve coffee/drinks/treats and even allows for pictures or old family wedding dresses to be put in the display windows for guests to view as they walk in. The main plus of the Howell Opera House is the upstairs -- the perfect unique place to get some amazing photographs in. rehearsal dinner or after-partyHowell provides many options for rehearsal dinner or an after-party (including Mr. Bs, Block Brewing Company, and Aubree's Pizza) or head 10 minutes down the road to Downtown Brighton. Stillwater Grill, Brewery Becker, and POUND! bar are all great options to host your wedding guests for some food & drinks.

Just a Pretty Typeface: Personalized Gifts & AccessoriesAs soon as I saw the Just a Pretty Type Face Etsy page, I fell in love with Kayla's work. Not only does she have great bridesmaid and girly gifts, she also has some adorably witty sayings on them (like the Yoga tote show below!). Everything is reasonably priced and make great gifts for not only bridal parties but co-workers, newly engaged friends, birthdays, or your significant other. A must-have in my opinion is the "my wedding planning tote" to stay organized. Check her out and support local businesses in the mitten! Simply Written Blackboard Signs & LetteringSimply Written is a local & professional lettering business located in Northville, MI. Diane, the owner, has an amazing talent and creates the most gorgeous signs. Perfect for wedding signage (dessert table, welcome signs, programs, and menus). Why pay for multiple programs and menus when you can have it creatively displayed, while adding to your wedding decor? Prices start at $10 and move up depending on the size & customization. Check out Diane's work here on Facebook or her website.
Referrals and Googling "Michigan wedding venues" may be the most popular ways to find venues, but you may miss out on the perfect venue you're looking for. One way I discovered new and different Michigan venues during my own wedding planning was to look at (aka stalk) local metro-Detroit wedding photographer sites/blogs. There are so many unique venues that don't advertise or put themselves on The Knot (no need to if you're booked over a year in advance). I found so many unique venues in my search. Here are just a few of the non-traditional wedding venues around metro-Detroit. Planterra Conservatory (West Bloomfield, MI) |
